Web Sites Of Mine LyricFind.com - LyricFind has been my biggest success so far, drawing tons of traffic and publicity. It's an online lyrics database of over 50,000 songs, though we're currently going through all the legal hassles of arranging the proper licensing. There's also message boards, reviews, and all sorts of other goodies. Sport-Outlet.com - Sport-Outlet was a project I worked on with the people from Old Firehall Sports, a sports store in Unionville that I worked at for a few years. It started out as a retail play, but as we thought about it more we realized that there was much more need for a B2B exchange service, especially in the sporting goods industry, where there's huge price discrepancies between countries, especially Canada and the USA. The project was eventually abandoned for a number of reasons; it's still a great idea, and an unfilled need, so maybe someone else will take up the torch, or I'll pursue it in the future. JamFest - While I'm not actively maintaining the JamFest site anymore, the site has existed since 1998, dedicated to information and promotion regarding JamFest, a Venturer camp I was involved in running for seven years. It grew to the extent that it became the largest annual Venturer camp in North America, and 200 was the final year we ran it. It was a ton of fun, and maybe there'll be another one some day. NavaWeb.com - NavaWeb was a project I started with a few friends a while back to provide a contact management solution for mobile devices through WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) - essentially enabling you to sync your contact info through various devices. We did a fair bit of research into the idea, and ended up abandoning it when we discovered there were many others pushing the idea, and they were all much more well-funded than we were (ie., FusionOne). WAP hasn't really taken off anyway, so I guess we did OK on that one! Other sites I've helped out with or am currently helping: Piqqi.com - Piqqi is an interesting project I've been working on with some of the JamFest people and a few others. Unfortunately, I have to be quiet about what it is - but hopefully you'll all find out soon enough. TorontoDate.com - TorontoDate is a site started by Alex Conde, a friend from the JamFest days, as part of a school project. He decided it was such a good idea (getting free stuff and reviewing potential places to take a date in the GTA) that he got Ryan Clunas (my best friend for a long time) to join him, and together they've been building up the site and adding content. I help them out with technical stuff, business advice, and such, and I'm also working on a new site design for them, since their current site design is so horrible it's an embarrassment. |
