Who Am I? I am many things, but there are also many things I am not. This page will attempt to clarify that - but in the end, will probably serve only to muddy the waters some more. I am... An Entrepreneur - Over the years, I've started a few companies. It started back in the early years of high school when my friend Ryan and I started a BBS (Bulletin Board System - you know, the old dial-up access kind), and ran it out of my basement off a 386DX-33 with 120 megs of HD space. We ended up running it for over a year, gained immense popularity, but never made any money off it - though it was a great power trip to by Sysops. Since then, I've been involved in starting a few other companies, the most notable of which is LyricFind.com, a huge online lyrics database that also offers syndication and search services. It's the only one so far that's made me any real money, and I'm having a blast running it. More recently, I've started AdProject.net (which you can read more about here), and is the current pet project of choice. I'm constantly thinking up new ideas, and plotting ways to make them happen. I may start a section on this site dedicated to ideas I think would be interesting, but I personally won't pursue - so maybe somebody else will. A Student - Being young, I still get the joy of being in school and putting off officially being part of the "real" world for a bit longer. I'm a student at the University Of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. I'm studying Mathematics/Business Administration, and you can read more about my schooling on the School page. A Canadian - I'm a proud Canadian. I'm a Barenaked Ladies fan. I speak both French and English (though admittedly, my French is a little rusty). Ignorance about Canada (particularly from the USA - yes, I know there's lots of people there who actually do know that we don't live in igloos) annoys me. It pisses me off when the fans at Madison Square Gardens boo the Canadian National Anthem before Game 5 of the Raptors-Knicks series (thus, Jerome Williams is my hero), and when the Canadian Flag is brought out upside down before Game 2 of the Blue Jays-Braves World Series (Which the Jays won). I also use the world "eh" frequently. My one shortfall as a Canadian is that I'm a horrible skater. Go figure. A Night Hawk - I'm always up late; for instance, it's 2:30am as I write this, and I'm not even close to going to bed yet. Ryan regularly calls me at 2 or 3 am, knowing full well that I'll still be up and about. He does, however, know better than to call me at 9am. A Kid - Amidst everything else that goes on in my life, I like to have some fun mixed in there too. I like going out to bars and clubs, meeting people, having a few drinks, and doing the rest of the typical university student stuff. Every once in a while (all the time, if you ask my parents), the "young & stupid" in me has to come out and play. Outspoken - I almost always speak my mind, and will give anyone an honest answer to any question. I've never really been one to shut up and accept things the way they are; I was the kid in grade school who constantly asked the teacher questions, annoying and exasperating them to no end. My tendency to speak openly has occasionally gotten me in trouble; more frequently, it gains me the respect of those I'm dealing with. I am not... Musically Inclined - While I love music, have a huge music collection, and work with music every day, I couldn't play an instrument to save my life. Maybe that's why I'm so fascinated with it...who knows? Rich - Just because I run LyricFind, doesn't mean I have a ton of money. Stop asking. I missed the dot-com gravy train, and I don't need to have it rubbed in any more. Maybe one day...maybe. (ed: Some people tell me that this last paragraph is the funniest part of my site. For the record, I'd just like to say, it's not funny. It's sad.) | ||
